Hi! Janelle & Hoong Yan here :) Both of us were attached to two 4th grade classes, 4V and 4U. We were given the opportunity to teach in areas that we did not specialize in such as art! Class photo with 4U Class photo with 4V It has been fulfilling and enriching in terms of professional and personal development. At first sight, the school is structurally different from those of Singapore due to its small physical size and cohort number. After interacting with the students and teachers, we were gained more insight on the workings of the school. Here are some of the key takeaways we’ve had throughout our 5 week stint in Randersgade Skole.        1. Trust is key In Singapore, we tend to implement rules and regulations to prevent students from abusing a system due to the limited resources we have. However, sometimes, trust is a key factor in building rapport and a strong relationship and it can encourage students to behave appropriately. For ...

Randersgades Skole: Learning from the Danes!

Hello, Huihan and Nathaniel here! Both of us were attached to Randersgades Skole (Copenhagen, Denmark) with Hoong Yan and Janelle for the five weeks of IP, but we were assigned to teach the grade 6 and 7 students (secondary 1 and 2 equivalent). Cooking, sports, english and nature & technology were some subjects that we were assigned to teach during the five weeks. It was definitely nerve-wrecking for both of us. However, it was definitely an eventful five weeks as we were able to try out things that were unconventional, teaching topics without the worry of 'the syllabus' and to really impact life-skills and knowledge to our students - and of course cultural exchange as well. Hello, there! We are Teresa and Adeline, Year 2 student teachers who went to Skovbrynet Skole in Copenhagen, Denmark. We would like to share with you some of the highlights of our experience we had at our 5 weeks international practicum. 5X and 5Y We were attached to two Grade 5 classes - 5X and 5Y. This is 5X! This is 5Y! We were under the guidance of two teachers, Klara and Helene who taught Math and Science respectively. In the first two weeks, we observed and were exposed to the different nature of the teaching as well as the culture of the class and school. We took opportunities to get to know each of the kids better by having recess with them, heading to the school club with some of the kids after school etc. This really helped us to ease better into our teaching from Week 3 onwards. Spending time with some students during recess Our key observations Here are two main discoveries we have made that differentiate the Denmark and Singapore educa...
